Easier Now vs Todoist

Todoist stores the list. Easier Now starts the work.

Todoist is one of the best places to write a task down and find it again. Easier Now is built for the next step: working out which one to do now and putting it on screen.

Side by side

These two apps are not doing the same job. Todoist is about capture and organisation. Easier Now is about starting.

Where Todoist is the better fit

If capture is what you need, Todoist is very good at capture. Typing a task in plain language, filing it, finding it later and syncing it across every device you own are all solved problems there. It has been running for many years, it is stable, it works nearly everywhere, and it has a free plan, so the cost of trying it is nothing.

Where Easier Now is the better fit

If your list is already full and the stuck part is choosing what to do, a better list will not fix that. Easier Now puts an estimate on every task, adds up what today can actually hold, shows you what will not fit, and shows you one task. When you fall behind, overdue work comes back one item at a time rather than as a long list.

Two different questions

Todoist answers “where did I put that task”. Easier Now answers “which task am I doing now, and does that task fit before my next meeting”.

What switching looks like

You do not have to retype anything. Export your Todoist projects to CSV and import the file, mapping the columns to projects and due dates as you go. Most people are moved across in a few minutes.

Repeating tasks are re-entered as routines, which is the one part that takes a little work, because routines here carry a time estimate and can be anchored to things like “after I wake up” rather than only to a date.

What you lose

Todoist’s filter language is more powerful than anything here, and its integrations list is longer. If you have built a system on saved filters, you will notice their absence. Easier Now has fewer ways to slice the list because it is designed so that you do not have to look at the list.

Questions about switching

I have abandoned every productivity app. Why would Easier Now be different?

Easier Now has nothing to maintain. There is no board to tidy, no weekly setup and no daily planning session. Miss a fortnight and you are handed the backlog one item at a time, with three buttons under each: skip it, do it today, or mark it done.

What happens when a client blows up my afternoon?

Press Optimise schedule and Easier Now works the rest of the day out again. Your strict commitments stay where they are, your flexible work is refitted into the hours that are left, and anything that no longer fits today is shown to you so you can move it or drop it.
